8-16-18 - I noticed that this page showed up in a search today so decided I had better put a notice on this page that this occurred 4 years ago.  The only workshops I have scheduled at this time are in Gilroy California - which is near the Bay Area.  Here is page with up to date info on my Life Changing Workshop.  I recently started a new website Joy2MeU2.com that is mobile friendly for anyone who is on a phone. We are hopefully going to be offering my workshop online within the next month or so - on another of my sites RobertBurneyLive.com.

An Inner Child Healing / Spiritual Integration Workshop after the CoDA Convention
I am a recovering Co-Dependent and my name is Robert.  I count my conscious codependency recovery as having started on June 3rd 1986.  On that day I discovered, to my horror, that programming from my childhood was dictating my relationship with life and I made a commitment to my self to figure out how to change that reality.  This was actually some months prior to the first meeting of Co-Dependents Anonymous in October of 1986.  Since CoDA was not in existence at that time, I started attending Adult Child of Alcoholics meetings - even though I wasn't from an alcoholic family.  I have been attending CoDA meetings since late 1987 shortly after they first came to Southern California where I was living.

In the course of my recovery, in sharing my experience, strength, and hope - sharing what I had learned in my recovery with other codependents - I ended up writing books and articles, and speaking in public about codependency.  I made a choice to violate my own anonymity in order to share my recovery with others.
"I am inserting a note here for anyone who feels offended by what they see as a violation of the Eleventh Tradition of AA's Twelve Traditions.  The 11th Tradition of AA is:
Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and films.
I routinely break my own anonymity in regard to the fact that I am a recovering alcoholic / addict and codependent because I do not believe I would be alive today if Betty Ford had not broken her anonymity in the late 1970s and brought the subject of alcoholism out of the closet into public view.  She is one of the people I dedicated my book to because I believe that I personally owe her a debt of gratitude for her courage and honesty.  Breaking my own anonymity is one way that I carry the message of hope that saved my life." - Robert Burney 2/10/04 The Miracle of The Twelve Step Recovery Process Steps 10 thru 12 - The Maintenance Step
This does not mean that I don't respect the traditions of the 12 step program.  With only a few rare exceptions over the years, I do not promote myself or my books in 12 step meetings that I attend.  I have gone to meetings with other codependents for years without them knowing that I am a counselor and have written books on codependency.  That is very challenging at times when I can see that certain people could really use the knowledge I have gained, but out of respect for the traditions, I do not promote myself in 12 step meetings.  This has presented a challenge at times when I have been asked to speak at CoDA Conventions.  This paragraph from a page about one of two appearances I made in Akron Ohio some years ago, explains how I have found a way to share my experience, strength and hope with other codependents and still honor my self and my boundaries.
"Robert would be pleased and happy to be invited to speak at any twelve step meeting or convention.  For any location that is more than a reasonable drive (about 2 hours) Robert will need to get expenses and lodging to help him afford to take time out of his regular schedule.  For any CoDA or other 12 step group that is a distance away - especially any location that will require travel by air - Robert will need to be able to make some income on the trip in addition to expenses as part of having a healthy boundary that honors the value of his time and his need to pay the rent every month.  The best way this can be handled on any trips of a distance, is to have Robert speak in the 12 step setting where he can share his story as a recovering Codependent - and schedule a separate workshop independent of the 12 step group - as is being done in this Ohio appearance.  That way there is no violation of the traditions by charging for admission." - Codependency Recovery / Inner Child Healing Workshop in Akron Ohio
I am the special guest speaker from California mentioned in the flyer on the left.  I will be doing an hour long workshop during the day at the CoDA Convention on Saturday and sharing my story that evening as Robert B.   After the convention ends on Sunday morning, I will be offering a 3 hour workshop at noon to share the inner child healing / Spiritual integration approach to codependency recovery that I discovered in my recovery.  There will be a $20 Love donation requested for that workshop.  The hope is that enough people will make donations to attend that workshop so that the expenses for me to fly back to Boston will be covered - as the CoDA committee is only able to cover some of the expenses for the trip.

People for years have been asking me when I will make an appearance on the East Coast - and now this opportunity has presented itself.  Any support you can give to helping make this possible will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone making a donation can attend and bring guests of course.  If anyone wishes to make a larger donation, here is a Love Offering page.
